What do the ULEZ cameras do?

Ulez cameras are the cameras used by Transport for London (TfL) across the capital. They allow TfL to monitor the cars that enter and exit the zone.

If you are parked but don't drive, you don't need to pay the ULEZ charge. The ULEZ is enforced by cameras that are able to read your number plate as you drive anywhere within the zone and will automatically detect whether or not your vehicle meets the ULEZ emissions standards.

If I don't pay the ULEZ charge, will I receive a penalty fine? Yes, TfL uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect entry to the zone. If your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ emission standards, failure to pay will result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) of £180, or £90 if paid within 14 days.

Drivers do not need to pay the daily ULEZ charge for vehicles parked inside the zone that are not driven on that day. This is regardless of whether the vehicle is parked on a private drive or on street.
