Lots of people ask if there is a dress code at The Cathedral. The dress code isn't as strict as other places, such as La Mezquita in Cordoba or The Cathedral in Barcelona. You are allowed shoulders and knee showing, however, caps must be taken off and tops must be worn.
Dress in comfortable clothingWith the warm weather and the hours of walking ahead of you, I would definitely say to wear comfortable shoes and light clothing. If you're planning on walking to the Alhambra, you'll find a pretty large hill waiting for you, so make sure you don't wear sandals.

Yes you can take your own food and drink into the Alhambra. You aren't allowed to take large bags into the Nasrid Palaces, Alcazaba or Generalife though so you may need to use the storage lockers while you are exploring those.
Everyday Casual WearThe dress code for day to day is pretty much casual, there is no need to be overdone especially in the hot weather and if you are spending your days exploring and walking around. Linen fabric clothing is always a great idea as it's very light on your body and also breathable.
The cathedral forbids entry to anybody wearing sandals, sunglasses, or hats, or anyone with their legs or shoulders exposed. Plunging necklines, skirts, and shorts should altogether be avoided.
Remember that God loves you no matter what you wear, and modern churches are making jeans more acceptible. If your church leaders are wearing jeans, then you can probably wear them, too.

Time of day: If you're visiting during the winter, you'll have more time to visit Alhambra if you come in the morning. Visit during the afternoon in you're making the trip in the spring, summer or fall months to get the most out of your visit.
You should arrive to the Alhambra at least 30 minutes before, since it takes around 20 mins to walk from the Alhambra main gate to the Nasrid Palaces. This is very important, since you want be able to see these palaces if you arrive late.

You can access to every place inside the Alhambra (Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Partal and Generalife) just once. However, you can go in and out of the complex all the times you need.
Best Way To Explore Alhambra PalaceIf you choose to enter through the main entrance, explore the Generalife first and then the Nasrid Palaces and Alcazaba. If you enter through the Gate of Justice, then visiting the opposite way is an ideal route to take.
