Every Airbus A350 in the Qatar Airways fleet is powered exclusively by the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine. Specifically, the variant depends on the model: the A350-900 uses the Trent XWB-84, which produces 84,200 pounds of thrust, while the larger A350-1000 is powered by the more powerful Trent XWB-97, producing 97,000 pounds of thrust. The "XWB" stands for Extra Wide Body, and this engine was designed from the ground up specifically for the A350 airframe. It is widely considered one of the most efficient large aero-engines in the world, utilizing advanced materials like ceramic matrix composites and 3D-printed components to reduce weight and fuel burn. As the launch customer for both the -900 and -1000 variants, Qatar Airways has played a vital role in the real-world operational testing of these engines, which allow the aircraft to fly ultra-long-haul routes (like Doha to Los Angeles) with significantly lower emissions and noise profiles compared to older generations of wide-body jets.
