What fare class is basic economy on Delta?

Fare class E is a revenue fare class that is marketed as Basic Economy on Delta Air Lines mainline and codeshare flights. This fare class is considered no-frills and the most restrictive fare class.

On Delta Air Lines in 2026, the specific letter code for a Basic Economy ticket is almost always "E." This fare class is officially marketed as "Delta Main Basic" and is designed as a "no-frills" option for price-sensitive travelers. It comes with significant restrictions: you cannot select a seat in advance (one is assigned at the gate), you are the last to board (Zone 8), and you are not eligible for any upgrades, regardless of your Medallion status. Crucially, as of 2026, "E" fares do not earn any SkyMiles or credit toward Medallion Status (MQDs). While "E" is the primary code, Delta sometimes uses other internal codes for specific promotional Basic Economy tickets, but "E" remains the standard identifier on boarding passes and receipts. If you see an "E" on your ticket, you should also be aware that changes are generally not permitted after the 24-hour risk-free period, though some "Basic" tickets can now be canceled for a partial "eCredit" minus a significant cancellation fee.
