What happened to Apocalypse Six Flags?

Following an announcement in 2018 revealing a new roller coaster, West Coast Racers, Magic Mountain closed Apocalypse and the area it resides in. It reopened in September 2019 prior to the planned debut of West Coast Racers.

Apocalypse: The Ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California is still very much in operation in 2026, though its identity has shifted over the years. Originally opened in 2009 as "Terminator Salvation: The Ride," it was the first wooden coaster to feature onboard audio and a high-budget pre-show. In 2011, following Six Flags' move away from expensive licensing agreements, it was rebranded to the more generic, post-apocalyptic "Apocalypse" theme. The ride underwent a significant re-tracking and refurbishment in 2017 to smooth out the "rough" wooden experience and was temporarily closed again in 2019 to accommodate the construction of the neighboring West Coast Racers coaster. In 2026, it remains a favorite for wooden-coaster purists, known for its "blazingly fast" 50 mph speed and its 2,877-foot track that weaves through explosive-themed wrecks. It currently sits in "The Underground" section of the park, continuing to provide a high-intensity, "Sci-Fi combat" atmosphere for thrill-seekers.
