Spreepark, the famous abandoned amusement park in Berlin's Plänterwald, is currently undergoing a massive transformation into a "Culture and Nature Park," with a full reopening targeted for 2026–2027. Originally opened in 1969 as Kulturpark Plänterwald in East Germany, it fell into insolvency and closed in 2002, becoming a legendary "lost place" overgrown with vegetation. After years of legal battles and decay, the city of Berlin took over the site in 2014. Under the management of Grün Berlin, the park is being reimagined as a sustainable space where art, culture, and nature coexist. A major milestone was the 2024 refurbishment of its iconic 45-meter-high Ferris wheel, which was sent to Poland for specialized restoration and is being reinstalled as a centerpiece. The historic Eierhäuschen restaurant has already reopened, and the park’s future identity will focus on guided tours, art installations, and preserving the eerie, nostalgic charm of the original rides while removing the traditional "amusement park" commercialism.
