In June 2023, Fury 325 at Carowinds gained international attention when a guest filmed a massive structural crack in one of its steel support beams while a train full of passengers passed over it. The ride was immediately shut down for emergency repairs. The manufacturer, Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), determined the failure was due to a design flaw in the weld of that specific column. The cracked pillar was completely removed and replaced with a newly engineered support beam in July 2023. After the replacement, the ride underwent over 500 test cycles and rigorous third-party inspections before reopening to the public in August 2023. As of 2026, the coaster has been operating safely with enhanced daily inspection protocols and new sensor technology to monitor the structural integrity of the steel throughout the ride's layout.
