What happens at a Disney resort during a hurricane?

They are closely monitoring the path of the projected weather and will adjust hours as necessary to prioritize the safety of our Guests and Cast Members. Guests may cancel or reschedule their trips for the impacted period and all Disney-imposed cancellation fees will be waived.

During a hurricane in 2026, Walt Disney World resorts operate under a highly coordinated "Ride-Out" protocol. If a hurricane warning is issued, Disney may close the theme parks, but the resorts remain open and are among the safest places to be in Florida due to their reinforced construction and independent power grids. Guests are usually asked to "shelter in place" within their buildings once the heavy winds arrive. To keep spirits high, Disney often deploys "Character Caravans" to the lobby areas, provides extra indoor activities, and sometimes shows free movies in the guest rooms. Dining options may be limited to "boxed meals" or buffet service to minimize staff movement. Disney also has a generous Hurricane Policy that allows guests to cancel or reschedule their vacation packages without penalty if a hurricane warning is issued within 7 days of their arrival. While your park days may be lost, the resort experience during a storm is designed to be as safe, comfortable, and "magical" as possible under the circumstances.
