What happens if I miss a lightning lane?

This one is super important to remember. If you happen to miss your return time window for your Lightning Lane, you will NOT be allowed to book another one for that attraction. If you're going to miss your Lightning Lane window for whatever reason, go into the app and cancel it before it expires.



If you miss your Lightning Lane window at a Disney park, the entry code on your app will technically expire and turn gray, meaning you can no longer scan in. However, Disney cast members often provide a "grace period" of about 15 minutes after the window ends, though this is not a guaranteed policy and is at their discretion. If you miss the window due to a legitimate issue—such as a ride breaking down or a dining reservation running long—you can speak to a Guest Experience Team member (look for the blue umbrellas) who may be able to move your time. If you simply forgot or were late, the pass is generally lost, and you cannot book that same ride again for that day using the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You would have to use the standby line if you still want to experience the attraction. It is always best to prioritize your Lightning Lane arrivals, as the system is designed to keep a strict flow of guests to maintain low wait times for everyone.

Missing a Lightning Lane entirely will result in you not being able to book another one for the same ride. However, once the appropriate time elapses you can book another ride. My suggestion is to be strategic with the Lightning Lane bookings and aim to keep modifying to a time you know you will make it.

Individual Lightning Lane reservations can't be modified. Genie+ Lightning Lanes can be modified to change the time, or to change to a different attraction in the same park. If you want to change to an attraction in a different park, you'll need to cancel and rebook.

On slower days, there's availability well into the afternoon. Over at Epcot, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has improved Individual Lightning Lane availability. On peak days, it often sells out by 9 am or 10 am–about an hour after park opening.

Can Genie+ sell out? Yes. It can. Although it isn't common, we've seen it happen a few times during busier times of the year (like over the holidays and Spring Break).

To cancel a Genie+ reservation, click on the reservation and select Cancel. You can choose to cancel only some members of your party, or all of them. You can cancel a reservation once the return time window has started, and if you do you will be able to rebook the same ride later if times are available.

The 120-minute rule is determined by when you make the reservation, not the return time for the attraction. So if you both log on at 9 AM to make a reservation for different attractions, you will both have to wait 120 minutes (or after riding the attraction, whichever comes first) to make your next selections.

The Genie 120-minute rule says that you can make a new reservation at most 2 hours from when you made the last one, and this countdown timer doesn't change if you modify the reservation.

Yes. You can tap into Lightning Lanes up to 5 minutes early and up to 15 minutes late. These are automatic grace periods, and you do not have to ask a Cast Member for them–tapping in will simply work.
