What happens if it rains at the Albuquerque balloon Festival?

Cancelled Balloon Session Occasionally the weather prohibits the launch or inflation of balloons but most often when there are poor weather conditions a session will be delayed. The Gondola Club will stay open at these times, and your tickets are still valid, as the meal and other services will still be offered.

At the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, safety is the top priority, and ballooning is entirely weather-dependent. If rain, high winds, or lightning are present, the balloons will not inflate or launch. In the event of a cancellation, the organizers will typically issue a "rain-check" for that specific session. This means your ticket will be re-activated as a General Admission ticket valid for any other remaining session during the current year's event. It is important to note that tickets are non-refundable, even if weather prevents flying. However, the park often remains open during rain-checks so guests can still enjoy the food vendors, shops, and land-based entertainment. In 2026, the 54th Fiesta (Oct 3–11) continues this policy, emphasizing that while the "Mass Ascension" might be grounded, the festival grounds provide a festive atmosphere regardless of the sky's condition.
