If you miss a connection due to an Air Canada flight delay, the airline’s response depends on whether the delay was within their control. Under Air Canada's 2026 policy and the Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR), if the delay is within the airline's control (such as a mechanical issue or crew scheduling), they are required to rebook you on the next available flight to your destination at no extra cost. If the next available flight is the following day, Air Canada must provide overnight hotel accommodation and transportation to the hotel, as well as meal vouchers. For delays of 3 hours or more, you may also be eligible for cash compensation ranging from $400 to $1,000 depending on the length of the final delay. If the delay was outside their control (like extreme weather at Toronto Pearson or Montreal-Trudeau), they will still rebook you for free, but they are not legally mandated to provide a hotel or cash compensation. In all cases, you should visit the "Air Canada Connections" desk or use the mobile app to receive your new boarding pass and any vouchers you are entitled to.
