In 2026, Lyft's policy is designed to be "driver-friendly" regarding unrated trips. If you forget to rate your driver within the allotted window (usually 24 hours), the app will automatically assign a 5-star rating to that trip. The company operates on the assumption that if a passenger doesn't provide feedback, it means the ride was satisfactory and "ran like clockwork." This protects drivers from having their average score dragged down by "silent" happy customers. Regarding tipping, if you set a "Default Tip" percentage in your settings, that amount will be automatically applied even if you don't manually enter it. However, if no default is set and you forget to tip through the app, the driver simply does not receive a gratuity for that ride. You can still go back into your "Ride History" for up to 30 days to add a tip or adjust a rating if you realize later that you missed the opportunity.
