According to the 2026 Hilton Honors policy, points are not legally "owned" by the member and cannot be bequeathed in a will; however, Hilton provides a clear path for transferring points to a beneficiary. Upon the death of a member, Hilton allows their points to be transferred to another member's account without a fee, provided the request is made within one year of the date of death. To initiate this, the executor or a family member must provide a copy of the death certificate (a certified copy is usually not required) and documentation establishing their legal authority over the estate. The receiving member must have an existing Hilton Honors account. While points can be moved, elite status and lifetime progress are not transferable. Hilton's policy is generally considered one of the more compassionate in the industry, as it prevents the "forfeiture" of a loved one's hard-earned travel rewards, allowing family members to use the points for future stays in memory of the deceased.
