What happens when you hit 1 million miles on American Airlines?

Upon earning one million (1,000,000) Million Miler™ miles, AAdvantage® members will be vested with AAdvantage Gold® status for the lifetime of the AAdvantage Gold® program and 35,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles. AAdvantage® bonus miles do not count toward qualifying for AAdvantage® status or the Million Miler™ program.

Achieving "Million Miler" status on American Airlines in 2026 is a permanent lifetime achievement that grants you Lifetime AAdvantage Gold status. Once you cross the 1-million-mile threshold—which is based on actual flight miles for American-operated flights and partner travel—you no longer need to qualify for Gold status annually; you will have it for life, regardless of how much you fly in the future. Additionally, you receive 35,000 bonus miles to use for award travel. If you reach 2 million miles, you are elevated to Lifetime Platinum status and receive four one-way systemwide upgrades. A major perk of the program in 2026 is the ability to select a "Million Miler Companion"—a spouse or significant other who lives at the same address—to share your highest earned status for the year. Million Milers also receive commemorative personalized luggage tags and access to a curated selection of "Milestone Gifts" each time they hit a new million-mile increment, serving as a prestigious "thank you" for long-term brand loyalty.
