What happens when you reach 1 million miles on American Airlines?

Upon earning one million (1,000,000) Million Miler™ miles, AAdvantage® members will be vested with AAdvantage Gold® status for the lifetime of the AAdvantage Gold® program and 35,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles. AAdvantage® bonus miles do not count toward qualifying for AAdvantage® status or the Million Miler™ program.

When you reach the Million Miler milestone on American Airlines in 2026, you are granted lifetime AAdvantage Gold status. This means you will never have to worry about "requalifying" for the entry-level elite tier, which provides perks like one free checked bag, priority check-in, and complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra seats at check-in. In addition to the lifetime status, you receive a one-time gift of 35,000 bonus AAdvantage miles. As part of the program's recent updates, Million Milers also receive a limited-edition centennial luggage tag (commemorating AA's 100th anniversary in 2026). It is important to note that American Airlines counts "Million Miler" status based on actual flight miles flown on AA or partner flights, not "Loyalty Points" earned through credit cards or shopping. If you reach the 2 Million Mile mark, your lifetime status is upgraded to AAdvantage Platinum, which includes Group 3 boarding and Oneworld Sapphire benefits, allowing for international business class lounge access regardless of the cabin you are flying.
