What is confirmed flight itinerary?

An itinerary is confirmed if it is verified by an airline. If you have a document from an airline that lists a confirmation code or demonstrates that you have actually reserved or booked your tickets, you have a confirmed travel itinerary.

A confirmed flight itinerary is a verified document issued by an airline or a travel agency that proves a passenger has a reserved seat on a specific flight. Unlike a simple "flight reservation" or "holding," which might only last for 24 to 48 hours without payment, a confirmed itinerary includes a unique 6-digit alphanumeric PNR (Passenger Name Record) or booking reference and indicates that the ticket has been fully paid for and issued. It contains essential details such as the flight numbers, departure and arrival times, airport terminals, and passenger names as they appear on passports. This document is frequently required by embassies and consulates during the visa application process as "proof of onward travel." It serves as a guarantee to the authorities that the traveler has a legitimate plan to enter and exit the country. Once you have a confirmed itinerary, you are officially in the airline's system and can typically select seats, request special meals, and check in online 24 hours before the scheduled departure.
