Manchester Airport (MAN) is currently in the final stages of a massive £1.3 billion transformation program that involves the permanent closure of Terminal 1 in 2026. As part of this overhaul, Terminal 2 has been doubled in size to become the airport's primary high-tech hub, handling the vast majority of international flights. Terminal 1, which opened in 1962, is being phased out because it can no longer support modern security technology or the volume of passengers expected in the late 2020s. Parts of the old T1 site are being repurposed to facilitate a full upgrade of Terminal 3, which is also receiving a new security hall and expanded dining options. For travelers, this means that by the end of 2026, almost all operations will be consolidated into the new-and-improved T2 and T3. Airlines like Aer Lingus have already begun adjusting their schedules and bases at the airport to align with these structural changes, ensuring a more streamlined experience for the millions of passengers flying from the "Northern Hub."
