South Padre Island beachAnd you can swim year-round. The weather was warm and balmy, even in December. I enjoyed many early morning walks and runs along the beach, often catching a gorgeous sunrise. South Padre's beach is narrower than some, but still great for sunbathing, playing, swimming, etc.
The best time for statewide travel is late Oct/Nov, March and April, and late May/early June. This will avoid, for the most part, Texas's hottest and coldest temperatures and the heaviest rainfall.
Beaches in South Padre Island are objectively more scenic and isolated than those on the North end of the Padre Island National Seashore. Gulf waters are tested annually and South Padre Island regularly rates among the safest, cleanest water.
South Padre Island is definitely one of those destinations. After spending four days there, I concluded that not only is it a great destination for people who love the heat and the outdoors, but it's also a year-round destination that can appeal to everyone from Spring Breakers to families with kids.
South Padre Island is known for the beautiful and calm sea that surrounds it. Some of the most interesting historical relics of the island lie deep at the bottom of its local waters. On April 29th, 1554, three Spanish ships sank off the coast of South Padre Island when a storm hit.
? Take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest level during the storm. Put as many walls between you and the outside as you can. ? Stay away from windows, skylights and glass doors.
