What is included in Coach Amtrak?

Coach class is offered on every Amtrak train and features wide, reclining seats with ample legroom, no middle seat option and at-seat trays, reading lights and electric outlets. Restrooms are located in each car. Amtrak Guest Rewards customers traveling in Coach earn 2 points per dollar spent.

In 2026, Amtrak Coach Class remains the most popular and affordable way to travel the U.S. rail network, offering a standard of comfort that significantly exceeds that of commercial airlines. Every Coach seat features extra-wide reclining chairs with integrated leg rests, a fold-down tray table, an individual reading light, and at least one dedicated 120V power outlet for charging devices. On long-distance routes, the "pitch" (legroom) is exceptionally generous, often reaching 40 to 50 inches. Passengers have access to complimentary Wi-Fi on most corridors, though bandwidth is limited and not intended for high-definition streaming. While meals are not included in the Coach fare, travelers have full access to the Cafe Car, which sells a variety of snacks, hot sandwiches, and beverages. Additionally, Coach passengers can bring up to two carry-on bags and two personal items for free, and on many routes, they can also check two bags at no extra cost. The experience is designed for comfort and flexibility, allowing passengers to move between their seats and the Sightseer Lounge (on double-decker Superliner trains) to enjoy panoramic views of the American landscape.
