What is included in Eurail Pass?

You can use your Pass to travel on the national railways and some private railways in the countries where your Pass is valid. In some cases, these train networks reach airports as well. Check the full list here. The Pass even includes certain buses and ferries to make sure everything is within reach.

Trains either have overhead storage racks throughout the car, storage room behind the back of your seat or luggage areas at the end of the car. According to the GTC-CIV (General Terms and Conditions for the International Carriage of Passengers by Rail), passengers can take a maximum of three items of luggage.

You can activate your Eurail Pass at any time before your first trip. To activate your Eurail Pass, enter your passport number on the start date of your trip. Just make sure your Eurail Pass is activated before you board your first train at any European train station.

In the app's terminology, a trip is the collection of journeys you will use your pass for. A pass can only have exactly one trip linked to it. A journey can consist of multiple trains.

Eurail is the name of the consortium that works with all the national rail companies to create the Eurail train pass. Rail Europe is an official reseller of the tickets and passes that Eurail creates. Interrail is the same pass but for Europeans only; Eurail/Rail Europe is for non-Europeans.

Passengers with an adult ticket can take a maximum of two bags (up to 85cm long) including rucksacks, suitcases or ski equipment and one small item of hand luggage. Child passengers (4-11 year olds) can travel with a maximum of one bag (up to 85cm long) and one piece of hand luggage.

For Passes valid for 1, 2 or 3 months continuously, your Pass is valid for 1, 2 or 3 months after your start date. You can use your Pass to travel every day within that period. So if your start date is 4 July and you have a 3 months Pass, your Pass is valid for 3 months from 4 July – so up to and including 3 October.
