Pollensa in the north of the island is an ancient town of attractive narrow streets and an impressive main square, lined with cafés, restaurants and bars, and is just a few kilometres from Port de Pollensa. Having been conquered time and time again through the centuries, the town bears signs of a rich history.

Walking from Port de Pollensa to Pollensa:This is a pleasant stroll for holidaymakers and hikers alike, and you can do it all year around. The path forms part if the dry stone route GR221 which enables to connect the port all the way to the Town of Pollensa itself in around an hour and a half.
Puerto Pollensa does not have an old town of its own, but in Pollensa, just 6 kilometres away, you will find the ideal place to enjoy the culture and history and experience traditional Mallorcan life.
Pollensa old town is located about 8 kilometers far away from the Port, and the most advisable way to get there is by public bus. There are 2 bus lines connecting the Port and the old town: line 345 that connects Port Pollensa – Pollensa.
Puerto Pollensa is certainly a better beach town than Port de Soller, but I think Soller is a nicer town that Pollensa. Having stayed in each, and only returning yesterday from Soller, I'd recommend Soller as the best base.

Areas to avoidIf you're after something more relaxed, do stay away from Magaluf and Palma Nova as these places are where you'll find a lot of the 18-30's groups, along with English-style pubs, a big drinking culture and all-night parties. They are also jam-packed during the peak tourism months of July and August.
Deia, Fornalutx, Valldemossa would all meet your criteria. Old town of Pollensa and town of Soller might also suit. Hope this helps. Fornalutx,so picturesque, is in a mountainous valley but rental villas cost a plenty there especially the few with a pool.It does attract tourists but it won't be too busy in May.
The richest towns are Valldemossa with 19,225; Escorca with 17,687; Deya with 17,231; Puerto Soller with 16,634 and Puigpunyent with 16,110. The least wealthy areas are Calvia with 14,120, followed by Banyalbufar with 14,848 and Esporles with 14,516.
