What is the 60 90 day rule in Singapore?

Malaysians can stay a maximum of 60 days on social visit passes in any 90-day window. Each social visit pass is 30 days max. To stay beyond 30 days, you must either exit Singapore and then come back, or apply for an extension.

The "60/90 day rule" in Singapore refers to the extension limits for short-term visitors. Most travelers enter Singapore on a "Social Visit Pass" (e-Pass) which is typically granted for 30 days. Under the 60/90 rule, visitors can apply for a one-time extension of their stay. For most nationalities, you can extend your 30-day pass to a total of 60 days online through the ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority) website. Extending beyond 60 days to a total of 90 days usually requires an "In-Person" appointment at the ICA building and a "local sponsor" (a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident) to vouch for you. Staying beyond the 90-day limit on a tourist pass is extremely difficult and usually only allowed for documented medical emergencies or family crises. In 2026, the system is almost entirely digital; your passport is not stamped, but you receive an email notification of your "last day of stay." Violating these limits is taken very seriously in Singapore and can result in fines, "caning" (in extreme overstay cases), or being barred from re-entry.
