What is the alien themed ride at Kings Island?

Kings Island's only indoor roller coaster, Flight of Fear fires riders off for a dark, disorienting trip through an alien-themed abyss. Complete with more loops, twists and corkscrews than you can count, it's easily among the park's best bets for thrill seekers.

The primary alien-themed attraction at Kings Island in Ohio is Flight of Fear, an indoor "Spaghetti Bowl" launched roller coaster located in the Area 72 section of the park. Originally opened in 1996 as The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear, the ride's narrative centers on a secretive government facility where a captured alien spacecraft is being studied. The queue line is highly immersive, taking guests through a "hangar" containing a large UFO and various extraterrestrial research equipment. The ride experience begins with a high-intensity Linear Induction Motor (LIM) launch, propelling riders from 0 to 54 mph in just four seconds into a completely dark building filled with four inversions and disorienting light effects. In 2026, the Area 72 theme has been expanded to include the record-breaking Giga coaster Orion, which shares the sci-fi research facility backstory, but Flight of Fear remains the quintessential "alien" experience due to its enclosed, mysterious atmosphere and the physical sensation of navigating through an extraterrestrial hangar at high speeds.
