What is the best month to see turtles in Costa Rica?

A visit to Costa Rica between March and November coincides with turtle nesting and hatching season. Known as the 'arribada' (arrival), thousands of sea turtles emerge from the ocean under the light of a full moon, and lay eggs on Costa Rica's beaches.

Five of the seven species are found around the world, mainly in tropical and subtropical waters. The remaining two species, though, have relatively restricted ranges: Kemp's ridley is found mainly in the Gulf of Mexico and the flatback turtle around northern Australia and southern Papua New Guinea.
