What is the best rideshare in Italy?

We asked Italian consumers about Ride sharing/hailing / online taxi usage by brand and found that Uber takes the top spot, while TaxiClick Easy is at the other end of the ranking. These results are based on a representative online survey conducted in 2023 among 297 consumers in Italy.

In 2026, the "best" rideshare in Italy is actually a mix of traditional taxi apps and limited premium services. Unlike the U.S., standard "UberX" (private cars) is largely prohibited or heavily restricted in Italy. Therefore, Free Now (formerly MyTaxi) is widely considered the best and most reliable app for both locals and tourists. It allows you to book licensed, regulated taxis with upfront price estimates and in-app payments, operating extensively in Rome, Milan, Naples, and Florence. Uber does operate in Italy, but it is primarily limited to Uber Black, Uber Lux, and Uber Van—premium chauffeur services (NCC) that are significantly more expensive than standard taxis but offer high-end vehicles and professional drivers. For carpooling on longer intercity trips, BlaBlaCar is the dominant and highly trusted platform. If you are in Venice, appTaxi is a unique favorite as it allows you to call water taxis through your smartphone. For the average city traveler in 2026, having both Free Now and Uber on your phone is the smartest strategy to ensure you can find a ride regardless of the city or your budget.
