The town of Tusayan, which is just 15-20 minutes away from the main Visitor Center on the south rim, has a great selection of places to stay. Grand Canyon Junction (formerly known as Valle) is further out (about 30 minutes to the rim), but is another good option. If you want a hotel, stay in Tusayan, which has plenty.
Grand Canyon South Rim is most frequently chosen by first-time visitors to the area not only for its beautiful views, but for its abundance of visitor services and family-oriented activities. The South Rim is open year-round.
The aptly named Grandview Point offers excellent, panoramic views of the Grand Canyon from the South Rim. This is one of the more popular view points on the South Rim for good reason. The view point is located off of Desert View Drive and is easily accessed.
The South Entrance to the park can get this busy during spring break, summer and weekends during the fall. If you arrive between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, be prepared for a wait between 45 minutes to 2 hours. Try to arrive before 9:30 am or after 4 pm.
The sheer magnitude of the Grand Canyon is much more visible from the South Rim. The South Rim is more “user friendly” with paved paths along the rim. In the winter, The South Rim is covered in snow. It's a beautiful sight, but make sure to wear your winter gear.
Not only does the South Rim have the best views, but it also has the best hikes. You can take anything from a 30-minute paved trail along the Rim to a 14-hour trek to the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon. It is safe to say that if you want to hike at the Grand Canyon, the South Rim is the best side for you.
With just one day at the Grand Canyon South Rim, you can see several viewpoints and even hike into the canyon. Unless you want a super relaxed Grand Canyon vacation on the rim or an adventurous rafting trip down below, one to three days at the Grand Canyon is usually enough time for the highlights.
Sedona to Grand Canyon South Rim is 113 miles, a 2 hour 10-minute drive. Sedona to Grand Canyon East Rim is 153 miles, a 2 hour 45-minute drive. Sedona to Grand Canyon North Rim is 236 miles, a 4 hour 20-minute drive. Sedona to Grand Canyon West Rim is 242 miles, a 4-hour 10-minute drive.

I happily respond that the road is completely paved! But it hasn't always been that way. The bumpy road had been a source of complaints and difficulties for many years – since before the Skywalk opened in March 2007.
For most South Rim visitors, one day is enough to take pictures, walk around the rim and even take a Grand Canyon helicopter tour or vehicle tour. But if you're planning on exploring the Grand Canyon a little more in-depth, staying in or near the park is a great idea.
Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be the least crowded days of the week. Is June too hot for the Grand Canyon? While the temperatures in June in the Grand Canyon can be warm, with high temperatures reaching the low 80s, it's still a pleasant month to visit.
Though you can't actually drive through the Grand Canyon as each part of the structure has to be conserved, you can drive to and around the region, as well as to the entrances to the North and South Rims.
Prefer coming mid-week or at the beginning of the week: not surprisingly, weekends are the busiest at the Grand Canyon. Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be the least busy days, followed by Wednesdays.
