Second, at the bottom of each price box you can see the fare class currently available for booking, with Basic Economy coded as “N”. This is a wonky note and not something you'll usually need, but sometimes searching out your fare code is the only way to tell whether you've booked Basic Economy or not.
Economy class, also called third class, coach class, steerage, or to distinguish it from the slightly more expensive premium economy class, standard economy class or budget economy class, is the lowest travel class of seating in air travel, rail travel, and sometimes ferry or maritime travel.
G: Deepest discounted fare. N: Basic economy on domestic and short-haul international flights. Just note that you'll often see multiple prices for the same economy fare class. Domestic and short-haul international flights offer an upgrade option to convert a discounted fare into a fully refundable one.
Economy seats may also be called coach, standard or main cabin seats. These seats are generally narrower than in other classes (from about 40 to 48 centimetres wide). The distance between seats (front to back) ranges from 76 inches to 86 centimetres so there is less legroom than in Business or First class.
Flying business class offers several advantages over economy class, making it a worthwhile investment. Firstly, it provides a more comfortable and relaxed travel experience, with wider seats, extra legroom, and improved in-flight amenities.
Price. Business Class seats are expensive. They are just triple the price of Economy Class, but cheaper than First Class. The departure airport has dedicated business class check-in counters, which are less crowded.
Basic economy tickets are ineligible for refunds and don't include seat selection. Economy Plus features standard economy seats with extra legroom. Standard economy includes seat selection and a free carry-on. All three economy classes charge for checked bags on domestic flights.
For most trips you can only bring one personal item when you're flying in Basic Economy. You can't bring a carry-on bag unless you're flying to South America, across the Atlantic or across the Pacific. All other bags have to be checked.
