What is the difference between hotel riu and riu palace?

The Palace resorts are a slight upgrade to the normal RIUs. The liquor is slightly better and the Palace tends to be larger. Stayed at RIU Guanacaste and it was stunning and quite large for not being a Palace resort. They share the same beach and it is not very large.
