What is the difference between Orlando Sanford and Orlando International?

Sanford is Orlando's secondary commercial airport, but is farther away from downtown Orlando and Walt Disney World than the primary airport, Orlando International Airport (MCO/KMCO).

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the primary, massive hub located just 6 miles from downtown Orlando and about 20 miles from Walt Disney World. It serves nearly every major global airline and handles the vast majority of international and domestic traffic. In contrast, Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is a much smaller, secondary airport located about 27 miles north of Orlando in the suburb of Sanford. SFB is primarily a base for ultra-low-cost carriers like Allegiant Air and specialized international charter flights. While MCO offers more amenities, lounges, and transport options (like the Brightline train), SFB is often praised for its shorter security lines and easier navigation. However, the cost of an Uber or shuttle from SFB to the theme parks can be significantly higher due to the distance (roughly 45-60 minutes depending on traffic), which can sometimes negate the savings found on a cheaper flight ticket.
