The primary difference between the standby line and Genie+ (now officially evolved into the "Lightning Lane Multi Pass" system in 2026) is the cost and the time spent waiting. The standby line is the traditional, free queue available to all guests; you simply walk up to an attraction and wait in the physical line until it is your turn to ride. This can result in waits ranging from 10 minutes to over two hours for popular attractions. In contrast, Genie+ is a paid daily upgrade (usually starting around $15–$30 depending on the day) that allows you to bypass the standby line by using the Lightning Lane. Instead of waiting in the main queue, you book a specific "return window" through the My Disney Experience app. When your window arrives, you enter a separate, much shorter line that typically gets you on the ride in 15 minutes or less. While the standby line offers the "standard" experience at no extra charge, Genie+ is designed for those who want to maximize their time and minimize their wait. Note that some high-demand rides like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance are not included in Genie+ and require a separate "Single Pass" purchase.
