What is the difference between the two Universal Parks in Orlando?

Universal Studios is focused on movies and television shows, while Islands of Adventure is themed around superheroes and magical creatures. Both parks include The Wizarding World of Harry Potter offerings, but rides and experiences differ.

The two primary theme parks at Universal Orlando Resort offer distinct experiences: Universal Studios Florida is themed around "riding the movies" and features many simulator-based attractions, soundstages, and the incredible Diagon Alley section of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It is generally considered the better "rainy day" park as more of its attractions are indoors. In contrast, Universal's Islands of Adventure is designed as a journey through distinct themed "islands" like Marvel Super Hero Island and Jurassic Park. It is the go-to park for high-intensity thrill seekers, featuring world-class roller coasters like the VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, as well as several major water rides. While both parks are connected by the Hogwarts Express train (which requires a park-to-park ticket), Islands of Adventure focuses more on outdoor physical thrills and immersive environments, whereas Universal Studios focuses on screen-based storytelling and live shows.

If you're a thrill seeker, consider Hosgmeade. If you'd prefer to walk, eat and shop, head to Diagon Alley. In the end, both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade are worth a visit — and with a ticket that allows you to hop between parks, a quick ride on the Hogwarts Express can ensure you experience both Harry Potter lands.
