The "Epcot dragon" is a small, purple, and orange-winged creature named Figment, who serves as the unofficial mascot of the EPCOT theme park at Walt Disney World. First appearing in 1983 in the Journey Into Imagination attraction, Figment was created by Imagineer Tony Baxter to represent the literal "figment of your imagination." He is traditionally accompanied by his mentor, the Dreamfinder, a jolly wizard-like figure who collects "sparks" of creativity. Figment's design is a "mishmash" of various animals: the horns of a steer, the snout of a crocodile, and "royal purple pigment." While the attraction has undergone several controversial refurbishments (including one in 1999 that almost removed him entirely), Figment remains a cult favorite in 2026, frequently appearing on limited-edition merchandise and as the face of the International Festival of the Arts. His popularity is so enduring that Disney recently launched a meet-and-greet experience and is developing a feature film based on his character.
