In 1978, the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway opened to connect the village of Grindelwald-Grund, at just over 900 meters, with the village of Männlichen, at just over 2300 meters. Since its opening, the 6 kilometer Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway has been the longest cableway in the world.
Skyway Monte Bianco is a cable car in the Italian Alps, linking the town of Courmayeur with Pointe Helbronner on the southern side of the Mont Blanc massif. Taking over three years to construct, it opened in 2015 at a cost of 110 million euros, and is considered to be the world's most expensive cable car installation.

New sponsorThe sponsorship deal also allows TfL to temporarily rebrand the cable car with other commercial sponsors, such as Pokémon in August 2022. TfL did note that the cable car makes a profit, despite the substantial reduction in sponsorship income.
