Portland, Oregon is considered one of the top hippie towns in the United States for its liberal, environmentally conscious culture that values creativity, individuality, and social justice. Dating back to the 1960s and 70s, Portland has a long history of counterculture movements.
There are signs of new times at the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, the San Francisco neighborhood that was the epicenter of the hippie movement in the 1960s.

Little is known about her pre-Civil War days. Early maps show that Folly was once called “Coffin Land,” possibly because ships would often leave plague or cholera victims on barrier islands before approaching a large port.
