The title of the world's (and Europe's) oldest operating amusement park belongs to Dyrehavsbakken (commonly known as Bakken), located just north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1583, it began when a natural spring was discovered in the royal hunting grounds, attracting entertainers and vendors. Today, it maintains a unique "village" feel with no neon signs or big-brand stores, featuring 33 rides and over 70 attractions. While Bakken is the oldest, Prater in Vienna (founded 1766) is another historic giant. In terms of "largest" by sheer physical size and visitor numbers, Disneyland Paris (at nearly 5,000 acres) and Europa-Park in Germany are the dominant leaders. Europa-Park is particularly famous for its 18 "European" themed areas and over 100 attractions. Thus, if you are looking for the absolute oldest, you go to Bakken; if you are looking for the largest and most modern complex with the highest ride density, Europa-Park is the definitive European champion in 2026.
