Yes, you can definitely experience Redwood National Park in one day! On my most recent visit, I only spent about 6 hours in the park and still managed to hike Prairie Creek and Foothill Loop Trail (including seeing Big Tree Wayside), Simpson-Reed Trail, and Stout Memorial Grove Trail.

California > Redwood National and State Parks. All the redwood parks can be visited year-round. Spring is the best time overall, especially from April through June. The woods are at their most lush and green, until Memorial Day the parks aren't too crowded, and all the trails and roads are usually open.
Start your trip at the excellent Thomas H.Kuchel Visitor Center, 1 mile south of Orick. Of the five visitor centers in Redwood National and State Parks, this one is the largest, with numerous exhibits and a video on redwood ecology, a great bookstore, and access to a sandy beach.

The 45-mile Direct Route will take around 1 hour 15 minutes to complete if you drive straight through Redwood National Park without stopping. We'd always suggest leaving a lot longer than this - at least half a day but ideally more - since there are so many stunning views to enjoy en route.
The giant trees are more impressive in Sequoia but it's super touristy imo. If you want to go for long hikes then Sequoia is better. Redwoods are impressive, but really only grow in small groves. If you want short hikes and a foggy beach then Redwoods is great.
