What is the newest cruise ship from Princess Cruises?

Our newest ship- now sailing! Discovery Princess®, our third vessel designed from the ground up with Princess MedallionClass® and the final Royal-class ship, will continue to deliver an array of innovative new experiences.

As of early 2026, the newest and most advanced ship in the Princess Cruises fleet is the Star Princess. Launched in late 2025 as the second ship in the innovative Sphere Class, it follows its sister ship, the Sun Princess. The Star Princess is a 175,500-ton "engineering marvel" that features groundbreaking architectural elements like The Dome, a multi-level geodesic glass structure inspired by the terraces of Santorini, and The Sphere, a suspended glass Piazza that offers breathtaking panoramic ocean views. For the 2026 season, the ship is making headlines as a centerpiece of Princess’s largest-ever Alaska deployment, providing luxury accommodations and world-class dining to the "Great Land." This class of ship is specifically designed to be more environmentally friendly, being powered primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). With a capacity for roughly 4,300 guests, it represents a significant leap forward in design for the brand, blending the signature "MedallionClass" technology with a more modern, airy, and immersive aesthetic.

Princess appeals to an older demographic than lines such as Carnival and Norwegian. The average age of passengers is around 57, and you'll usually see a lot of couples on board in their 50s, 60s and 70s. As noted above, these aren't people necessarily craving go-kart tracks and ropes courses at sea.

When the stabilizers aren't needed, they are retracted into the vessel's side. Older and smaller ships are less likely to have this technology and are much more apt to feel the motion of the ocean. A mega-ship, such as Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas, might just be the best cruise ship to avoid seasickness.
