What is the newest ride at Great America?

Six Flags Great America, in Gurnee, Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin state line, announced that Sky Striker, the tallest pendulum thrill ride in the Midwest, will open in the spring of 2024. The ride will be 17 stories tall, and riders will sit in a swinging disk that will glide back and forth at up to 75 mph.

As of early 2026, the newest and most talked-about attraction at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, is Wrath of Rakshasa. This record-breaking "Dive Coaster" officially opened in 2025 and has quickly become a flagship thrill for the park. The ride is famous for its terrifying "beyond-vertical" drop, where the train hangs over a 96-degree precipice for several seconds before plunging 171 feet toward the ground. It holds the world record for the steepest drop on a dive coaster and features the most inversions of any ride in its category (five in total). The theme is inspired by Indian mythology, featuring a creative and immersive queue line. Beyond this major addition, the park has also been focusing on "DC Universe" area updates and the renovation of older classics. However, for sheer adrenaline and "newness" in 2026, Wrath of Rakshasa is the undisputed king of the midway, drawing massive crowds for its unique combination of psychological suspense and high-speed maneuvers.
