The Côte d'Emeraude (Emerald Coast) was born in 1894, the Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast) in 1903 and the Côte d'Opale (Opal Coast) in 1911. At the end of the 19th century, the term Côte d'Azur took precedence in France over Riviera, which was also used around the world, in places like Austria and Turkey.
