What is the purpose of grad night?

Grad Nights are provided by a committed group of parents joining together with other community members to give their high school graduates a safe, sober, and spectacular graduation celebration. The two highest risk nights for High school students are Prom and Graduation nights.

In 2026, Grad Nite serves as a high-stakes "rite of passage" for graduating high school seniors, providing a safe, supervised, and exclusive environment to celebrate their academic milestone. At major theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios, the primary purpose is to offer an "after-hours" party where the parks are closed to the general public, allowing students to enjoy attractions, dance parties with live DJs, and special "grad-only" photo opportunities without the usual crowds. For schools and parents, the event is designed as a sober alternative to traditional unmonitored parties, minimizing risks associated with underage drinking and reckless driving. By 2026, these events have evolved into multi-tiered ticketed experiences, sometimes spanning an entire day of park access followed by a private midnight bash, reinforcing a sense of community and shared accomplishment among classmates before they disperse for college or careers.
