What is the statue in Regents Park?

The Matilda Fountain is a Grade II listed statue and drinking fountain opposite 15 Gloucester Gate, Regent's Park, London, built in about 1878. The bronze statue is by Joseph Durham, and depicts a milkmaid holding a pail and looking towards the Park with a hand raised to shield her eyes.

Originally a part of Henry VIII's hunting forest, Regent's Park was developed and landscaped (in the 1810s and '20s) by the city planner and architect John Nash as an area of leisure for the royal family and other aristocrats. It was opened to the public by 1841 and is one of the main parks of central London.
