What is the ultimate abyss slide?

At more than 150 feet above sea level, the Ultimate Abyss on Oasis Class ships is the tallest slide at sea. Thrill seekers begin their adventure at the slide's glass platform and then launch down 10 stories of twist and turns, whizzing past multisensory effects before blasting onto the Boardwalk.

The Ultimate Abyss is a record-breaking "dry slide" featured on Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships, including the Harmony, Symphony, Oasis, and Utopia of the Seas. Towering more than 150 feet above sea level, it is the tallest slide at sea. It is not a water slide; instead, riders sit on customized mats and launch from a glass platform through the gaping jaws of a fanged sea creature on Deck 16. The slide consists of two enclosed steel tubes that plunge 10 stories down to the Boardwalk on Deck 6. As you whiz down at speeds up to nine miles per hour, you experience multi-sensory effects, including flashing LED lights and jarring sound effects that mimic a descent into a "bottomless pit." The newest version on Utopia of the Seas is even longer at 259 feet, offering an extended 19-second adrenaline rush, making it one of the most extreme non-aquatic attractions available on any cruise ship in 2026.
