United Airlines requires its "Unaccompanied Minor" service for children aged 5 to 14 who are traveling without a parent or guardian. For teenagers aged 15 to 17, the service is optional. In 2026, the fee for this service is $150 each way for up to two children on the same reservation. The policy dictates that unaccompanied minors can only fly on nonstop flights operated by United or United Express; they are not permitted on connecting flights or codeshare partners. Upon arrival at the airport, the child must be checked in at the ticket counter by an adult, who will receive a "gate pass" to escort the child through security to the boarding gate. The adult must remain at the gate until the plane is officially in the air. During the flight, attendants will check on the child regularly and provide one complimentary snack. At the destination, the designated pick-up adult must present a valid government-issued ID and sign a release form before the child is handed over by a United representative.
