The new scanners are provided by Evolv Technology. Guests simply walk through it, and security officers can see if a guest has a weapon on them. The scanners are able to distinguish between weapons and personal items, such as a phone.

Disneyland still uses the old style metal detectors, which require a physical bag check and a slow one at a time processing through a vintage step through scanner. Disneyland has lines for those with bags and those without. Only the people in the party with bags should get in the bags line!
However, a Cast Member at the security checkpoint may ask to open your bottle to check its contents, since metal water bottles are opaque. Just keep in mind that alcoholic beverages and glass containers aren't allowed inside the Disneyland Resort, as stated in the Rules.
You Can Bring a Backpack to Disney ParksWith the exception of a couple attractions, every ride at Disney will have a small pouch for you to stow your backpack, or space at your feet. Your trusty bag can take on all the adventures Disney has to offer with you!
As you mentioned, tripods and monopod stands that fit the size requirements are allowed inside of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. They cannot extend over 6 feet and must fit inside of a standard backpack when folded up.
You can bring alcohol into your hotel room if you are staying at Disney World. If you want to pack beer or cocktails into a cooler and take them to Magic Kingdom, than no, that isn't allowed.
How does Disney make sure there is no one left in their parks after they close for the night? Security guards, and the thousands of other employees who spend hours maintaining everything after closing-time. If someone were to try to play hide-and-seek against that many people, it would have to be Frodo Baggins.
