The Suica card is one of Japan's most versatile IC cards, covering a vast network that extends far beyond the JR East lines in Tokyo. It is valid on all JR lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area, Sendai, and Niigata, as well as on private subways (Tokyo Metro, Toei), buses, and the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport. Thanks to a "Mutual Use" agreement, a Suica card can also be used on virtually all major transportation networks across Japan, including the ICOCA region in Osaka/Kyoto, the Kitaca region in Hokkaido, and the SUGOCA region in Kyushu. While it covers almost all local and rapid trains, it cannot be used alone for the Shinkansen or long-distance limited express trains without a separate ticket or registration. It is also a popular payment method at thousands of convenience stores, vending machines, and restaurants nationwide.
