What planes do British Airways use at London City?

The single terminal allows a quick and seamless journey from kerbside to airside in under 15 minutes. (Nb: Some routes are summer/winter only). We operate 15 Embraer 190, and six Embraer 170 aircraft (BA CityFlyer), a Saab 2000 (wet leased from Eastern Airways) and two Airbus A318 (BA mainline) from the airport.

At London City Airport (LCY), British Airways operates exclusively through its subsidiary, BA CityFlyer, using the Embraer 190 (E190) aircraft. Due to the airport's unique location in the Royal Docks and its short runway, aircraft must be capable of a "steep approach" (5.5 degrees compared to the standard 3.0 degrees) and have the performance to take off from a limited distance. The E190 is perfectly suited for these constraints. In 2026, the fleet consists of approximately 20 of these jets, which offer a 2-2 cabin configuration, meaning there are no middle seats. Previously, BA operated the Airbus A318 for its specialized all-business-class service to New York (JFK), but that was retired several years ago. While London City has recently undergone expansion to accommodate slightly larger, quieter "next-generation" aircraft like the Embraer E190-E2 or Airbus A220, the standard E190 remains the "workhorse" for British Airways' extensive network of UK domestic and European business routes from the heart of London.
