What rainforest is Angel Falls in?

Angel Falls is in the Amazon rainforest. Angel Falls is a waterfall located in southeast Venezuela, and it is 3,212 feet tall. This waterfall has two different drops, one of which is 2,648 feet long, making it the tallest uninterrupted waterfall in the entire world.

Angel Falls, the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, is located in the Canaima National Park, which is part of the Guayanan Highlands moist forests ecoregion within the larger Amazon Rainforest basin in southeastern Venezuela. More specifically, the falls drop from the "Auyán-tepui" (Devil's Mountain), one of the massive flat-topped mountains known as tepuis that characterize this ancient landscape. This region is a unique "Lost World" environment where the rainforest meets the high-altitude scrubland of the tepui summits. The area is incredibly remote; in 2026, there are still no roads leading to the falls, and visitors must fly into the village of Canaima and then travel by motorized canoe up the Churún River. The surrounding rainforest is a biodiversity hotspot, home to jaguars, giant anteaters, and hundreds of species of orchids. Because the falls are so high (979 meters), much of the water turns into a fine mist before reaching the ground, which supports a lush, mossy micro-ecosystem at the base of the cliffs. Visiting during the wet season (June to December) ensures the most spectacular flow, as the rainforest's heavy rainfall feeds the Kerep River that powers the falls.
