Hersheypark has retired several notable roller coasters over its long history to make room for newer attractions. One of the most unique departures was Roller Soaker, a suspended "water coaster" manufactured by Setpoint that allowed riders to drop water bombs on guests below while being sprayed by ground-level geysers; it operated from 2002 until 2012 before being replaced by the Breakers Edge Water Coaster. Another significant loss was the original Wild Cat (1923–1945), a wooden coaster that was the first to be built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company at the park. More recently, the park "retired" the wooden Wildcat (the 1996 GCI version) in 2022, though this was actually a transformation rather than a complete removal; it was reimagined as Wildcat's Revenge, a high-intensity hybrid coaster by RMC that opened in 2023. Other smaller removals include the Twin Toboggans (1972–1977) and the Little Comet kiddie coaster. These changes are part of the park's strategy to evolve its skyline and provide more modern, thrilling experiences while managing the limited footprint of its historic grounds.
