What should I do with my phone at a theme park?

So even if a park doesn't make you go through metal detectors at a coaster's queue, stow the phone anyway. And that means leaving it at the station, in a locker, or at the very least inside a closed pocket where it can't fly out during the ride. That goes for anything you're carrying with you in the park, too.

Managing your phone at a theme park requires a balance of keeping it accessible for the park's app while protecting it from the elements. First, bring a portable power bank; using GPS, mobile ordering, and checking wait times will drain your battery by noon. Second, use a waterproof pouch or a Ziploc bag if you plan on riding water attractions like Tiana's Bayou Adventure or Jurassic World, as even "splash zones" can ruin electronics. For high-speed roller coasters, do not keep your phone in loose pockets; use a zippered pocket, a fanny pack, or the designated lockers provided at the ride entrance. Many parks now have "no loose articles" policies where you must pass through a metal detector, so be prepared to stow it securely. It is also wise to set a unique lock screen that includes an emergency contact number; if you lose your phone, a Cast Member or fellow guest can call your party without needing to unlock the device. Finally, download the park map and your tickets for offline use just in case the park's Wi-Fi becomes spotty under the heavy load of thousands of users.
