The general rule for hotel etiquette is that you can take any item that is "consumable" or "single-use." This includes the small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, as well as the soap bars, shower caps, and vanity kits. Notepads and pens are also considered fair game, as they are often branded for marketing purposes and the hotel expects you to use them. Disposable slippers, if provided in a sealed plastic wrapper, are also yours to keep because they cannot be sanitized and reused for another guest. However, you should never take towels, bathrobes, linens, pillows, coat hangers, or electronics like remote controls and hair dryers. These are the property of the hotel and are designed to be laundered and reused. Most modern hotels track these items via RFID chips or housekeeping inventories, and if they go missing, the hotel will likely charge the credit card on file for the replacement cost, which is often significantly higher than the retail value of the item.
